Jamaican BBQ Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup tomato ketchup
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons coconut sugar or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the ketchup, molasses, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, sugar, mustard, onion powder, paprika, garlic powder, allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  2. Heat the sauce over medium heat until it starts to simmer.
  3. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and reduced by about 1/3.
  4. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if necessary.
  5. Let the sauce cool completely and store it in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
